The Animated Series' Showrunner Has Seen Fans' Second Season Bingo Cards — And She Has Positive Updates
The highly-awaited Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season presents a diverse group of personalities living within the afterlife, sets them at odds with songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the creator commented recently. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people make a prediction grid about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
