Together Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Relationship.

Consider this a test for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of the horror genre: Settle in with your loved one and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. At first glance, it may seem like typical biological terror, but inside Together resides a deep examination about our choices in loving one another.

A Directorial Debut Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, partners that have remained a couple for over ten years. Having wed in real life in 2017, the two stars bring a particular energy to their characters, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The plot starts when Tim and Millie move from the urban environment to the countryside for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the tropes cease. Together transforms into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their new home, a tempest descends, and the protagonists discover an underground cave. After spending the night there and managing to escape, a mysterious influence starts to affect the pair. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The whole movie is a slow burn horror experience, weaving in elements of hallucinatory nightmares, gross (but never too gross) biological grotesqueries, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes amidst something horrific). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and delivers them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is only the two lead actors, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a emotional and physical gap. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and removed from his social circle. He fears the notion of completely losing his sense of self in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect is that he refrains from painting Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

The couple confront the sort of issues that are inherent in any relationship a decade in. Deep down, they continue to care for each other. They still laugh together, offer support, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these concerns of codependency and giving oneself over to another person, the symbolism does not come across as overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. Accounts suggest that unattached audience members have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for staying single. Conversely, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own interpretation could act as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion plant feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your significant other and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can experience at this very moment.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
